D: »(Naziv za) glasbo, v kateri je načrt za fizično lokacijo vira zvoka sestavni del strukture (dela) – bodisi eksplicitno bodisi tako, da se razume sam po sebi. Izvor zvoka, živega ali posnetega (ki ga slišimo prek zvočnika), je lahko stacionaren ali gibljiv. Iluzijo zvoka v gibanju pogosto dosežemo tako, da posneti zvok hitro prenesemo od enega stacionarnega zvočnika do drugega.« (‹V›, 703)

KM: V glasbi 20. stoletja so številni primeri za p. g.: Ivesov Unanswered Question (1906), Varèsejeva Poème électronique (1957–1958), mnoge skladbe H. Branta (gl. BRANT 1978), Stockhausenov Gesang Der Jünglinge (1956), v katerem je avtor »poskušal oblikovati smer in gibanje zvoka v prostoru ter s tem dobiti novo dimenzijo glasbenega doživetja« (STOCKHAUSEN 1963c: 153), njegove Skupine (Grupe) (1955–1957), Sakačev Turm-Musik (1970) itd.

KR: D, ki jo je sicer sestavil H. Brant, izvrstno utrjuje pojem. Pomembno v p. g. je prav to, da je prostor konstitutiven element dela oziroma njegove strukture.

GL: ambientalna glasba, okoljska umetnost, fonoplastika, glasba kot pohištvo, muzak, premični koncert, rotacija zvoka, tapetna glasba, zvočna krajina.
