D: »(Naziv za) enoglasni elektronski glasbeni instrument s tipkami, ki ga je leta 1924 konstruiral M. Martenot v Parizu … Zvok nastaja iz dveh različnih frekvenc, ene fiksirane in druge variabilne, podobno kot pri tereminu in tereminovoxu. Martenotove valove so v začetku upravljali z žično zanko, pripeto na kazalec desne roke. Premikanje te žice čez ‘nemo’ tipkovnico je spreminjalo vrednost kapacitete kondenzatorja. Od štiridesetih let naprej so Martenotove valove začeli opremljati s standardnimi klaviaturami, namesto žice pa se je uporabljal trak, kot pri emiritonu, hellertionu in travtoniju. Z levo roko se lahko menjajo registri, ki jih je od pet do dvanajst. Martenotovi valovi so med nabolj priljubljenimi elektronskimi glasbenimi intrumenti v 20. stoletju. Za njih so skladali D. Milhaud, M. Ravel, A. Honegger, J. Martinon, O. Messiaen (‹RUF›, 345), na Hrvaškem pa S. Horvat, R. Radica in K. Šipuš.

KR: Glede na to, da sta teremin in tereminovox isto glasbilo, v D ne bi bilo treba navajati obeh pojmov.
