D: »1. (Naziv za) glasbo, ki se nenehno ponavlja, vse dokler se ne spremeni v ozadnjo zvočno krajino. Vexations (1892–3) Erika Satiea, kratka skladba za klavir, ki se neprestano ponavlja, s tem pa poudarja dolgočasnost tega ponavljanja, bi lahko šteli k delom takšne zvrsti. 2. Pojem se uporablja tudi za označevanje glasbe za ozadje, kot je npr. muzak, ki ga lahko slišimo v veleblagovnicah in na letališčih.« (‹FR›, 101) […]

KR: Pojem ima nenavaden tako pomen kot tudi obliko (še zlasti t. 1 v DF). Glede na to, da se ANG- beseda glasi »wallpaper« = »zidna tapeta« (‹OAD›, 1047), je povsem nerazumljivo, zakaj potem – glede na pomen v D – ne moremo govoriti o »carpet music«. Žal v ‹FR› viri pojmov niso nikoli omenjeni, tako da tega ni bilo mogoče bolj podrobno raziskati. Mimogrede, pomen v t. 1 D je v protislovju s pomenom v t. 2: Satie je napisal Vexations z namenom, da bi skladba namerno dolgočasila (gl. NYMAN 1974: 31–33), ne pa da bi se spremenila v t. g., še zlasti ne v smislu t. 2 D, ki delno sovpada s Satievo glasbo kot pohištvo, ki pa je nastala veliko pozneje kot Vexations.

GL: ambientalna glasba, okoljska umetnost, glasba kot pohištvo, muzak, prostorska glasba, zvočna krajina.
