D: »(Naziv za) postopek dvokanalnega … prenosa, ki v nasprotju z monofonijo1 ponuja prostorsko informacijo. Pri reprodukciji omogoča lokalizacijo prenesene zvokovne informacije, tj. bolj pristno zvočno sliko. Za stereofoničen prenos morajo biti vsi prenosniki (vsaj) dvojni: za snemanje sta potrebna dva mikrofona, za shranjevanje zvoka dva neodvisna spomina, tj. pri magnetofonskem traku dva (neodvisna) kanala, tj. dvokanalni magnetofon, za reprodukcijo dva ojačevalca in dva zvočnika na predpisani oddaljenosti. KM: V D je zanimiv pojem »monofonija«, ki sicer v glasbi pomeni enoglasje, vendar ima v izrazju elektroakustične glasbe očitno tudi pomen, specificiran v D. (gl. tudi ‹EN›, 155).
