ET: ANG soft = mehek, nežen; rock, rock glasba.

D: »(Naziv za vrsto) rock glasbe, ki izvira iz Kalifornije, izraža pa lahkotnejše in bolj sproščene občutke od drugih slogov v rocku. Ta slog povezujemo s skupinami, kot so npr. Beach Boys, The Mamas and the Papas in The Fifth Dimension.« (‹FR›, 83)

KM: Pojmi, ki se razlikujejo od ANG-izvirnika (in ANG-pojma »soft rock 1970«), so v ‹BR›, 238–239.

KR: Pojem ima dvomljivo vrednost in ga zaradi tega ni v kompetentnih priročnikih (npr. v ‹KN› in v ‹RAN›), ki se temeljito ukvarjajo z izrazjem rock glasbe. Pojem je verjetno izoblikovan kot nasprotje hard rocku tj. heavy metal rocku (gl. ‹HI›, 434, kjer značilnosti s. r. najdemo tudi pri folk rocku, tj. country rocku, vendar pa se s. r. v vsakem primeru razlikuje od heavy metal rocka).
