METER

ANG: metre, meter (ameriški); NEM: Metrum; FR: mètre; IT: metro.

ET: Grš. métron = mera, pesniška stopica (‹KLU›, 476).

KM: V terminologiji glasbe 20. stoletja je meter osnova za tvorbo raznih drugih, specifičnih pojmoGL: heterometer, multimeter, polimeter, variabilni meter.

KR: Meter kot osnovo moramo razlikovati od »-metrije« (npr. v ametriji, heterometriji, polimetriji) in metrike (npr. v heterometriki, polimetriki, spremenljivi metriki), ker te osnove niso sopomenke metra. Pridevnik od meter je »metrski«, ne pa »metrični«, ker »metrični« izhaja iz metrike. Zato je napačno: metrična disonanca (namesto metrske disonance), metrična modulacija (namesto metrske modulacije), »heterometričen« (namesto »heterometrski«), »polimetričen« (namesto »polimetski«).

Meter je skoraj sopomenka za mero, je pa koristno biti pozoren na pomensko diferenciacijo med metrom in mero, ko je to potrebno. Mera je namreč predvsem določilo takta – o tričetrtinski meri se lahko govori kot o tričetrtinskem taktu – vse take oznake takta pa sodijo pod meter kot njegove metrske različice. Meter se od mere najbolj razlikuje v tistih pojmih glasbe 20. stoletja, ki so izpeljani iz metra kot osnove: heterometer, multimeter, polimeter, variabilni meter, nikakor ne morejo biti nadomeščeni z »heteromero«, »multimero«, »polimero« ali »variabilno mero« ker je v teh tvorbah meter veliko boljl natančna osnova.
