ET: ANG = jazz z Vzhodne obale (ZDA).

D: »Pojem, ki so si ga izmislili pisci o jazzu sredi petdesetih let, da bi z njim opisali slog, ki je veljal za nasprotje West coast jazzu in sorodnemu cool jazzučustven, spodbuden in pod vplivom bluesa. Naziv se ni nikoli popolnoma ustalil, saj je bil bolj literarna domislica kot koristen opis. Glasba v tem slogu se je namreč igrala povsod, ne samo na Vzhodni obali. Uporabnejši sta oznaki hard bop in soul jazz.« (‹GRJ›, I, 322)

KM: V ‹HI ›, 138, je bil E. C. j. razumljen kot podvrsta modern jazza.

KR: Oblika pojma z vezajem je tudi v ANG, pogosteje pa v NEM, ne pa tudi v IT. Priporoča se raba brez vezaja.

Raba prevedenega pojma ni priporočljiva (= jazz z Vzhodne obale), saj v njem niso dovolj izražene slogovne značilnosti, kot jih razume izvirnik (lahko bi preprosto govorili o kateremkoli jazzu z Vzhodne obale ZDA), ne glede na pomisleke iz D. Zato se tudi v NEM in IT uporablja izvirna oblika.

GL: blues, cool jazz, hard bop, jazz, modern jazz, soul, soul jazz.
