D: »(Pojem za) slog v jazzu, ki je cvetel med letoma 1944 in 1958. S poudarkom na improvizaciji. Značilno za bebop je, da majhna combo zasedba najprej predstavi dvanajsttaktni blues ali kakšno dvaintridesettaktno popularno melodijo v obliki teme – solo teme. Pri solu igra pihalec ali pianist … razkosano, hitro melodijo; pianist prav tako kombinira pavze s punktacijami, ki reinterpretirajo tradicionalne harmonije s širjenjem akorda, z alteracijo ali zamenjavo. Bobni dodajo asimetrične poudarke, medtem ko beat označujejo svingerski obrazci v činelah in walking bass.
